Got Sun? Go Solar: Get Free Renewable Energy to Power Your Grid-Tied Home Review

This definitely in no how to book. The author's intent is to make you more knowledgeable prior to having a solar technician out. He does not to tell you how to do it yourself, he actually discourages it for several reasons which he lists. I think you can build them yourself. But he does show you how to size a system and give you a in depth look at the many different solar possibilities that are available.

I am new to solar technology, and have found this book to be very helpful. It is well documented and gives you many details. The authors try and keep it fun when they can, to keep your interest. Researching this subject on the Internet is very hard to do for solar, its hard to know is which system to use. Without this book, my head would still be spinning attempting to determine who has the best kit.

Windmill Power - Generate Your Own Power

Man has harnessed the FREE power of the wind for thousands of years via sails on a sailing ship, and for now the wind is still free therefore why are we not harnessing the power of the wind more?

We have giant coal fired power stations spewing great quantities of carbon into the atmosphere and nuclear power plants that have the potential to spew who knows what into the atmosphere, and yet we as a society go along with this. The general public can see the folly in this, but still allow big corporations and the politicians that receive campaign donations from these large corporations to continue to operate these monsters.

Why not harness the power of the wind to generate power, after all the wind has been around since the beginning of time and will continue until the end of time. That is more than can be said for the non-renewable energy sources that we are now using up at an alarming rate.

The problem up until recent times has been that renewable energy has been expensive to produce, but with the rising cost of fuel oil and gas, renewable energy is becoming a viable alternative now. Also more research is being done to help reduce the cost of renewable energy.

What most people don't realize is that a wind powered generator can be produced very cheaply by a person that possesses a few home handyman skills. So if a person can generate power from a windmill cheaply and the energy to drive it is free, gee even a politician should be able to understand the benefit that provides to society. I am sure there will be a committee set up to determine how government can tax the people for wind power.

A single wind turbine is probably not going allow you to disconnect from the power grid, but if you generate part of the power that you use for free, then you are not only helping the environment but also your finances. There is always the option of building more than one turbine or maybe a bigger turbine to generate most if not all of the power that you need.

I am sure that you are like me and worry that during the last 100 years (which is such a small part of history) we have decided to use all this non renewable energy, with not much thought for the next 100, 200, 500 years, yet most of us have literally on our doorstep a renewable source of energy - lets use it.

How would you like to unplug your home from your electricity company, knowing you are 100% powered by mother natures clean free energy? You can now learn to easily make a wind generator or solar panels for free home energy.

With the cost of living rising more and more each day, there is no better time than right now to stop throwing your hard earned money out the window and start generating your own free electricity. Did you know that 93.9% of the energy that is consumed by US is not from renewable energy sources and that only 0.2% of the energy that is consumed is generated from wind and solar power.

The fact is that most people don't know about the benefits of generating renewable energy for themselves. They also don't know how easy it is to do this and just pay $1,000s a year in electricity without having a hint that there is a much better way.

There are a lot of solar panels and wind generators on the market that will cost you $1,000s of dollars for just a single unit, plus you will still have to pay for installation. Now there are guides that will help you make your own wind generators or solar panels for around $200. These guides give you step by step instructions on how to build and install correctly.

Just imagine a few months from now all of the money you saved from not paying for electricity and you will wonder why you hadn't made wind generators or solar panels for your home energy long before this.

Are you using all your home's comfort completely guilt free, laughing at rising energy prices, while saving the environment? If not now is your chance for free energy, Solar and Wind Energy

Build A Wind Generator And Save Money on Your Electric Bill

You can build your own wind powered generator and save money on your electric bill by harnessing the power of the wind. And you can build your wind generator for less than $100.00.

I know this is possible because I have built two wind generators myself. I've coupled them with a 100 watt solar panel and can run the majority of my home's electrical load on free energy.

I don't live in a particularly windy area but you only need a breeze of about 10 miles per hour to start creating electricity. You store this electricity in batteries so you don't need a constant wind source to benefit from this free resource.

The generator uses a DC motor like you would find on a treadmill. I purchased mine from an online surplus store for $15.00. When you buy a motor, you want one that is rated for high DC voltage, low RPMs and high current.

Look for voltages between 30-80 and RPMs of 400 and under. This will ensure you put out the highest voltage at the lowest possible RPMs which allows you to run your generator in less wind. I know this sounds complicated but its not. You just need a good guide and instruction book to walk you through not only the construction but theory as well.

I've only recently become interested in alternative forms of energy and having limited mechanical skills have succeeded in building a hydrogen generator for my car to increase gas mileage as well as build two wind generators to cut my home electrical bills.

You could certainly do the same. In fact, you could build 20 wind generators for the price of one commercial one with similar outputs.

Our government is not doing a lot about bringing the cost of energy down because energy is heavily taxed and provides revenue for the country. I feel my income taxes provide enough of that so I'll try anything to save money any way I can.

This has been very exciting and rewarding for me and I plan to add a couple more to run my entire house on free and abundant wind and sun.

Edward Teller Lectures: Lasers and Inertial Fusion Energy

Edward Teller Lectures: Lasers and Inertial Fusion Energy Review

It is remarkable that the world's shake-up about the climatic catastrophe in December 2007 coincides with the 100th birthday celebration of Edward Teller. The Bali conference of the IPCC (International Panel about Climatic Change) during the week of the Nobel Prizes to Al Gore and for IPCC to its chairman Rajendra K. Pachauri on 10th of December 2007 is close to Teller's 100th birthday on 15 January 2008. Teller emphasized not long before he died in September 2003 to John Nuckolls "The future is uncertain and scientists and engineers should cooperate globally to shape the future". If nuclear power stations may be an essential component next for solving the climatic catastrophe, there is a crucial contribution by Edward Teller where a very rare documentation is just given in the "Edward Teller Lectures".
For the carbon dioxide pollution in the air one will have to recognize the priorities, e.g. that the 120 years development of the motor car is so perfect and essential not only for individual mobility but for all the whole economy, trade and supply of most needed goods. Petrol is vital to be used before alternatives may be developed and installed on a trillion dollar level in the future. Where to cut CO2 emission had to come from other sections, e.g. from extinguishing the burning of rain forests emitting 6 billion tons CO2 per year. And by gradually reducing fossil energy in the electric power stations, heating houses etc.. Windmills or solar energy generation will help but this is not generally economic. When Robert Dautray received his Edward Teller Medal, Teller mentioned how to fight the oil crisis of 1972 (page 51): "the French have a really unjustifiable advantage over everyone else: they are logical! And this logic tells them that the nuclear way is the way to go..." Indeed it needed many years until 85% of all electricity is produced nuclear now in France. The statement of Teller in 1993 is now so important after the most experienced and successful environmentalist James Lovelock against a furious crowd of media opponents is showing that it is now too late to stop the catastrophe and that a rise the of oceans by 60meters can only be postponed by using nuclear energy.
The French solution with light water fission reactors is now well established by technology and economics for general use, but Al Gore in his book "Earth in the balance" of 1993, p. 328, correctly aks for better advanced designs of nuclear fission reactors. Just for a much better solution absolutely safe and free of any misuse for nuclear weapons, Teller described his rarely documented scheme in the book (p.51) of a completely automatic thorium breeding reactor built 200 meters under ground in rocks. Any development of this kind of alternatives was prevented by the antinuclear media indoctrination and valuable time lost. New steps in energetic future developments should well be expected parallel to other options as e.g. producing solar cells by electron beam technology to avoid the usual "alchemy" criticized by Gore (see amazon.de, H. Hora "Klimakatastrophe Überwinden").
Beyond James Lovelock's appeal to promote nuclear fission reactors, he also looks to fusion energy in the future. The option to solve this problem with lasers is just the topic of the book. It contains the summary of laser driven spark ignition in John Lindl's Edward Teller Lecture or that of George Miley underlining the use of neutron lean fusion fuel as Gerold Kulcinski said in CNN on November 13, 2007: one space shuttle load of helium-three mined at the moon surface can produce all energy of the USA for half a year. The crucial contributions to this field by Michael Key, by Laurence K. Suter, Robert McCrory or Steve Hahn should be mentioned as examples of the addresses of the 21 recipients of the Edward Teller medals awarded by the American Nuclear Society before 2005. A most advanced scheme by Nuckolls and Wood (p.13) may lead to a fusion gain by using the new Petawatt-picosecond lasers for fast ignition similar to the recently discovered block ignition [Physics of Plasmas 14, 172701 (2007); Laser and Particle Beams 25, 37 (2007)]. The fusion energy gains of 10,000 per incident laser energy even at rather low compression of the fusion fuel may lead to energy generation several times less expensive than any present energy source.
This is an exclusive view to solve the global energy problems at least by some specific aspects for next developments where Edward Teller's contributions were of incommensurable value. The "Edward Teller Lectures - Lasers and Inertial Fusion Energy" are a very competent summary mostly by the long years specialists in this field honored with the Edward Teller Medal of their scientific results gained from exploring this most exciting field with so many unexpected new phenomena now going to be used in the biggest lasers in the world (National Ignition Facility NIF in Livermore, or LMJ in France) costing more than 3 Billion dollars each. Like the lectures on this topic by Teller himself, the awardees make understandable their specific scientific results for the experts, as well as for the broader interested reader, and for students, scientists and engineers. This is merging as a brilliant jewel of new physics into the fatefully important demands for solving the future of mankind under the shield of Edward Teller's pioneering work and inspirations.

Edward Teller Lectures: Lasers and Inertial Fusion Energy Overview

How to achieve unlimited, safe, clean and low-cost energy by laser- or beam-driven inertial nuclear fusion has preoccupied all winners of the Edward Teller Medal since its inception in 1991. This book presents their findings, meeting discussions, and personal insights from Edward Teller himself. Expect discussion of important advances anticipated in the future such as multi-billion dollar fusion research projects (NIF), and new schemes such as the petawatt-picosecond laser–plasma interactions evoking new physics and coupling mechanisms.

Wind Loads on Structures

Wind Loads on Structures Review

Wind Loads on Structures Overview

Wind loads have to be taken into account when designing civil engineering structures. The wind load on structures can be systematised by means of the wind load chain: wind climate (global wind), terrain (wind at low height), aerodynamic response (wind flow to pressure), mechanical response (wind pressure to structural response) and design criteria. Starting with an introduction of the wind load chain, the book moves on to meteorological considerations, atmospheric boundary layer, static wind load, dynamic wind load and scaling laws used in wind-tunnel tests. The dynamic wind load covers vibrations induced by wind turbulence, vortex shedding, flutter and galloping. The book gives a comprehensive treatment of wind effects on structures and it will be useful for consulting engineers designing wind-sensitive structures. It will also be valuable for students of civil engineering as textbook or background material. It derives the theoretical background of wind loaded structures and gives practical applications for a large variety of structures, such as low rise static structures, buildings, chimneys and cable-supported bridges. The European Prestandard on Wind Actions, ENV 1991-2-4, is used throughout the book as a code reference.

Make Windmill Energy - A Guide to Windmill Energy Solutions

Whether you are planning to create a decorative windmill project or one for generation of electricity, it is always best to start off by obtaining a set of windmill plans.

When building your windmill, the size, shape, color and materials can be entirely up to you; however, the blades of the windmill must be of some exact specifications. When shaped accordingly, the blades of a windmill will be able to move easily when the wind passes through them. If you make the windmill blades too poorly shaped, the turbine will not spin even under strong wind conditions.

If you are planning to make windmills for artistic reasons, one of the best materials to use is Styrofoam. This material is light, cheap, easily affixed and very easy to shape with a Styrofoam cutter. The next best option is sheet metals that are widely available from hardware stores. Choosing light materials is best; a light windmill turbine will spin even in conditions where there is very little wind.

Make Your Own Windmill, Points to Remember:

o If you make windmill blades too poorly shaped, the turbine will not spin even under strong wind conditions.

o Choosing light materials is best; a lighter windmill turbine will spin even in conditions where there is very little wind.

o If you plan to make windmill power generators, the best materials to use are wood, fiberglass or aluminum.

o Generally, you should place the wind turbine in a spot where there is consistent and moderate wind flow.

Before you start making the windmills, you should consider the location where you plan to erect and make windmill. Generally, you should place the wind turbine in a spot where there is a consistent and moderate flow of wind.

The higher the altitude, the higher the wind speed will be. Some builders erect their windmills 10 to 20 feet into the air to harvest stronger wind power. If you plan to place it at such heights, the pole supporting the windmill must receive lots of support and reinforcements, because under high wind conditions the whole structure will become unstable.

If you plan to make windmill power generators, the best materials to use are wood, fiberglass or aluminum. These materials are strong and durable enough for outdoor use. You should also consider the ease of maintenance when it comes to the location of the windmill.

These are just a few of many useful tips when it comes to you being able to make windmill power generation. Look out for the next installment in making windmills.

Wind Energy As a Means to Produce Electricity

If you are looking for a usable and alternative source of energy then perhaps wind is the best source of power that you can find. Wind is a natural phenomenon that has been around since the creation of our world and it will continue to be present until the sun diminishes and our world is destroyed. In order to understand the wind, we have to understand that land heats up more slowly then water. Hence during daytime, the land will heat up and the temperature will increase due to laws of physics. This hot air will be replaced by cold air that is generated on top of water bodies. Hence this cooler air will try to displace the hotter air over land and thus wind will be formed.

The important thing is to answer the question of how to make wind power work for you? During the out course of the history, the wind power was harnessed through the use of windmills. These windmills were mainly used for grinding and also working mills for industrial production etc. However, the real use of wind power can be derived by using it to generate electricity. As you know, electricity is the most common type of usable power in the world, as it is used to power our systems both domestically and commercially. Life without electricity in the 21st century would be unthinkable.

The concept of using wind energy as a means to produce electricity is an old idea. It was first implemented in the United States during the beginning of the 21st century. The wind mills were used to generate electricity by the use of a simple turbine that translated the electromechanical axial motion of the blades to electricity much in the same way in which a converter generates electric through the motion of the wheels in your car.

Using wind turbines to power your water systems, and your communication systems is a viable option in rural areas and in farms etc. However, the geographical location of the wind mill is important as it must be a windy area. But if the conditions are favorable, you can easily make your own electricity to provide power for your appliances.

2008 Trends in Ocean Wave Energy

Ocean Wave Energy seems to be slowly progressing in 2008, there are several projects scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008 and early in 2009. Many of these projects are large enough to power up a small town and this will be when Ocean Wave Technologies prove their worthiness to the world. As you have probably figured ocean water is denser than air, about 750 times denser, thus, it has incredible advantages over wind generation.

This is not to say that T. Boone Pickens is not a revolutionist in his bid to create alternative energy with wind generators, indeed, it makes sense to tap into the constant wind in South Texas and elsewhere, why not. Rather, what we are saying is that you get more bang for your buck from the never ending duration of the surf compared to the sometimes blowing hard wind.

There are now several ocean wave generations schemes and designs in use now in 2008, some large enough to power up 10,000 homes. Larger projects are slated and should be online before 2010 and what we learn from these will allow us to build giant systems able to power up cities of 500,000 to a million homes. That future is coming and someday we may well be able to power up entire nations simply by using the motion of the never ending waves that hit their shores.

If you are someone who truly cares about alternative energy and wants to stay in the loop on all the latest advances in this unique energy sector, then perhaps you might do a little research online in your spare time to see just how far we've come. I had some really great links to describe all this in more detail to help you the reader, but unfortunately the online article site where I originally posted this article appears to have disallowed those links, its rather obvious that they care more about making Adsense click traffic trickle payments than helping you the reader learn important information about alternative energies.

Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power that turns a generator that produces electricity to power homes, schools, businesses, and communities. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the world's winds could supply more than 10 times the current total world energy demand. With today's wind turbine technology, wind power could supply 20% of the United States' electricity. There are two ways you can power your home or business with wind: You may be able to purchase wind energy in the form of green power from your local utility, or you may be able to install a small grid-connected wind electric system to provide part of your electricity needs. A wind turbine rated from 5 to 15 kilowatts (kW) could lower your utility bill by 50% to 90%. Wind energy is a free, inexhaustible renewable resource. Wind energy is a source of clean, non-polluting electricity. A single utility scale (750 kW) wind turbine can prevent the emission of 5000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere each year. It would take 500 acres of forest to absorb that much CO2.

What Is Alternative Energy And How Does It Produce Power

Alternative energy is a popular term in todays media. It seems no matter where your turn the word is being used as a solution to reduce greenhouse gases and stop global warming. But What is alternative energy and how can it produce power? Currently there are three widely used forms of alternate power being used by homeowners around the globe.

Solar Energy

Solar power is a method that converts sunlight into usable electrical power. This power can be used to power lights in the home and even heavy appliances in some areas. Although solar kits are expensive to purchase they do pay for themselves after a short period of time, normally 5-7 years. Depending on your location you may be eligible for a solar tax rebate or tax credit. To offset the cost even further you may sell electricity back to the power company if you produce more then you need.

Wind Power

Wind power is created by using the force of the wind to turn a turbine generator,. Wind power generators have very few parts and are very simple to implement and install. The only drawback to this alternative energy source is the overall height of the towers can restrict its use in some areas. Before you purchase any wind generator you should always check local ordinances regarding their installation.

Hydro Power

Hydro power is limited to the select few that live near a source of running water like a river or large stream. A hydro electric system uses small micro turbines that are placed in the water, these turbines start to turn when the water runs through there blades and produce electricity. Hydro power systems will run continuously 24 hours a day as long as the water keeps moving over them. These systems are also very inexpensive when compared to other alternative energy sources with the average price being around $3000.

Alternative energy is the wave of the future and continues to evolve everyday. The hope is that science discovers more alternative fuel sources so that fossil fuels can slowly be replaced with cleaner more efficient technologies.

Wind Energy Basics, Second Edition: A Guide to Home- and Community-Scale Wind-Energy Systems Overview

The availability of clean, renewable power is without question going to be the defining challenge and goal of the 21st century, and wind will lead the way.

Internationally acclaimed wind energy expert Paul Gipe is as soberly critical of past energy mistakes as he is convincingly optimistic about the future. The overwhelming challenge of transforming our world from one of fossil carbon to one of clean power seems daunting at best—and paralyzingly impractical at worst. Wind Energy Basics offers a solution.

Wind power can realistically not only replace the lion’s share of oil-, coal-, and naturalgas– fired electrical plants in the U.S., but also can add enough extra power capacity to allow for most of the cars in the nation to run on electricity.
